Our Twin Town

Oberkirch

Oberkirch is a beautiful medieval town situated in the Black Forest area of Germany called Western Baden-Württemberg. It is 12 km northwest of Offenburg in the Ortenaukreis District. It is also very close to the French border, being about a 30 minute drive from Strasburg, which is one of our favourite venues for a day trip when we visit Oberkirch, along with a visit to the Black Forest.

2020 will be the 50th anniversary of Oberkirch’s famous Wine Festival, which we have attended many times, it is a wonderful four days of celebration and our hosts spare no effort to make sure we are treated as honoured guests.

The town itself is similar in size to Haverfordwest with picturesque buildings mainly of black ornate wooden construction in a typical Black Forest style. The town centre has a multitude of individually owned shops providing a large range of goods and local services.

Oberkirch has beautiful parks and is surrounded by lush forest, mountains and lakes, plus a picturesque river running through it and a well connected railway service and public transport.
